Devshayani Ekadashi 2024 : Know its scientific and spiritual importance

The sleeping period of the gods starts from Devshayani Ekadashi, know its scientific importance and spiritual importance—-

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024 is one of the most auspicious and sacred Ekadashis. This day holds an immense religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. On this pious day, Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna devotees observe strict fast and offer prayers to the Lord. They break their fast next day on Dwadashi Tithi

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: The time from Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi is considered to be the sleeping period of the gods. During this time, Lord Vishnu is especially worshipped. But what is the scientific importance of the sleeping period of God, know about it here today.

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024 on 17th July. Chaturmas is going to start from today itself. It is believed that God is in Yog Nidra during Chaturmas. In such a situation, no auspicious work is done in these four months because in Hindu scriptures no work is considered complete without the blessings of God.

Therefore, on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, when Lord Vishnu, the savior of the world, wakes up from Yog Nidra, then auspicious works begin.

Religiously, the beginning of the sleep of Lord Vishnu is considered from Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month, that is why it is called Devshayani Ekadashi. In the scriptures, the time from Devshayani to Devuthani Ekadashi is considered to be the sleeping period of God.

You must have heard many religious stories of God’s sleeping, but today understand its scientific importance here and know why the sleeping period of the gods starts from Devshayani Ekadashi.

Scientific importance of Devshayani

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: In Sanskrit literature, the word Harih is used especially for Lord Vishnu, Sun, Moon and Air. During Chaturmas, all these major powers Sun, Moon, Air etc. become weak and the elements obtained from them in the environment become less. Due to this, many types of changes also take place in our body and our digestive power becomes weak.

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: Since Lord Harih is considered omnipresent in the scriptures, Satvaguna among the three qualities present in our body and Pitta among the seven major metals of the body is considered to be the representative of Lord Harih. In such a situation, this time is considered to be a special time for the worship of Hari and the person is advised to eat satvik food and live a satvik life.

“Devshayani Ekadashi” ‘Mahatmya’

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi is known as Devshayani Ekadashi. It is also called Padma Ekadashi, Padmanabha Ekadashi. For those living in the household ashram, the rules of Chaturmasya start from this day. For the sanyasis, the Chaturmasya starts from the day of Guru Purnima.

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: The name Devshayani Ekadashi shows that from this day, Shri Hari goes to sleep. During this period, Shri Hari stays with King Bali of Patala for four months. Lord Vishnu returns to his world from Patala Lok on the day of Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, Devuthani Ekadashi, which is also called Devprabodhini Ekadashi. On this day, the rules of Chaturmasya also end.

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: On hearing the word Chaturmasya, one remembers all those sages and saints who stay at one place for four months and inspire people to live a life based on truth by providing them religious knowledge. Chaturmasya is from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi (also called Devshayani or Harishayani Ekadashi) to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi (Devuthani or Devotthan Ekadashi).

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: The tradition of Chaturmasya has been going on since ancient times in Sanatan Dharma, which is followed by our saints even today. The glory of Chaturmas has been specially sung in famous religious texts like Mahabharata etc.

Chaturmas is actually the time for sanyasis to guide the society. If a common man speaks only the truth in these four months, then also he will see spiritual light inside him. Nam Charcha and daily Nam Smaran also provide such results.

No auspicious work like marriage, new housewarming etc. is done in these four months. Why is this so? So the only reason behind this is that you should be completely immersed in the devotion of God, worship only God. If we see, in the changing weather, when the body’s ability to fight diseases i.e. immunity power is very low, then fasting, keeping a fast and worshiping God is considered very beneficial to gain spiritual power (Devshayani Ekadashi 2024).

According to the Puranas, all the wishes of the devotee who observes the Ekadashi fast with a true heart are fulfilled. Along with this, all sins are also destroyed and after death one attains heaven.

It is believed that by reading and listening to the story of this Ekadashi, one gets as much virtue as donating a thousand cows. In this fast, there is a provision in the scriptures to worship Lord Vishnu and Peepal (Devshayani Ekadashi 2024).

Pujan Vidhi

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: According to Narada Purana, after this Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu goes to sleep, so his worship is also special on this day. On this day, wake up in the Brahma Muhurta in the morning, take bath and meditate on Lord Vishnu.

After meditating on God, take a resolution of his fast and prepare for worship. Sprinkle Gangajal on the picture of Lord Vishnu in the puja room and apply tilak on him with roli-rice and offer flowers. Do not forget to light a lamp of pure ghee in front of the Lord and pray for freedom from all the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly and also perform his Aarti.

After this, after taking bath on Dwadashi Tithi, worship the Lord on completion of the fast and feed the Brahmin and send him off with Dakshina. By doing this your fast is completed. For those who do not observe fast, it has also been told in the scriptures that they should avoid brinjal, onion, rice, things made of gram flour, betel nut, garlic, meat-alcohol etc. on this day. Those who observe fast should meditate on Lord Vishnu from Dashami itself and keep themselves away from luxuries (Devshayani Ekadashi 2024).

Story

Devshayani Ekadashi 2024: There was a Chakravarti king named Mandhata in Suryavansh, who was truthful and very glorious. He used to take care of his subjects like his own sons. All his subjects were rich and happy. There was never a famine in his kingdom.

Once there was no rain in that king’s kingdom for three years and a famine struck. The subjects became very sad due to the lack of food grains. Due to lack of food grains, even the yajnas etc. stopped in the kingdom.

One day the subjects went to the king and said, “O King! The entire subjects are crying for help, because the reason for the creation of the whole world is rain. Due to lack of rain, there has been a famine and the people are dying due to famine. Therefore, O King! Suggest a solution by which the suffering of the subjects can be relieved.”

King Mandhata said, “You people are right, food grains are produced only due to rain and you people have become very sad due to lack of rain. I understand your sorrows.”

Saying this, the king went towards the forest with some army. He wandered in the ashrams of many sages and finally reached the ashram of Angira Rishi, son of Brahmaji. There the king got down from his horse and bowed to Angira Rishi (Devshayani Ekadashi 2024).

After blessing the king and asking about his well-being, the sage asked him the reason for coming to the ashram. The king folded his hands and said humbly – ‘O Lord! Despite following all the religions, there is a famine in my kingdom.

Due to this the people are very sad. It is said in the scriptures that the people suffer due to the effect of the king’s sins. When I rule according to the religion, then how did the famine occur in my kingdom?

I have not been able to find out the reason till now. Now I have come to you to get this doubt removed. Kindly remove this doubt of mine. Also tell me some way to remove the suffering of the people.’

On hearing this the sage said – ‘O King! Observe the fast of Ekadashi named Padma in the Shukla Paksha of Ashad month according to the rules.

Due to the effect of the fast, there will be rain in your kingdom and the people will be happy because the fast of this Ekadashi gives all the siddhis and destroys all the troubles. You should observe the fast of this Ekadashi along with the people, servants and ministers.’

On hearing these words of the sage, the king returned to his city and observed the fast of Padma Ekadashi according to the rules (Devshayani Ekadashi 2024).

Due to the effect of that fast, there was rain and the people were happy. Therefore, all humans should observe the fast of Ekadashi of this month. This fast gives enjoyment in this world and salvation in the next world. By reading and listening to this story, all the sins of a man are destroyed (Devshayani Ekadashi 2024).
